About MR. PET MELBOURNE

Mr Pet Melbourne is a small dog-grooming boutique on Burke Road in Balwyn North, in Melbourne's east. It is run by Jason, a groomer with more than five years of experience who built the business around a simple idea: putting the pet before the profit.

Grooming here is handled one dog at a time rather than in a busy group setting, which keeps the room calm and the attention squarely on the dog being worked on. The default wash is an Australian-made Plush Puppy natural shampoo, with a medicated Malaseb option available on request and the freedom for owners to bring their own products if a dog has particular needs. Jason asks owners to flag nervous dogs ahead of time so the visit can be paced accordingly, and senior dogs are welcome by prior arrangement in gentle, low-stress styles aimed at comfort and cleanliness. For double-coated breeds the studio favours scissor tidying over shaving to protect the coat. The approach suits owners who want considered, unhurried grooming over a quick turnaround.

It is a personal, owner-run operation where the dog's wellbeing sets the tempo of the appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do dogs need to be vaccinated to be groomed at Mr Pet Melbourne?

Yes. All pets must be fully vaccinated before they can be groomed. Pets should not be washed immediately after a vaccination, so check timing with your vet first.

What shampoo and products do you use?

The studio uses Australian-made Plush Puppy natural shampoo for all pets. A medicated Malaseb shampoo is available on request, and owners are welcome to bring their own products.

Do you shave double-coated breeds like Pomeranians, Corgis or Samoyeds?

No. Shaving is not recommended for double-coated breeds as it risks coat damage and skin problems. Scissor grooming to tidy the coat is offered instead, by quote.

Can you groom a nervous or anxious dog?

Let the studio know about any grooming anxiety beforehand so the groomer can prepare. Extremely nervous dogs may not be suitable for grooming.

Do you groom senior dogs?

Senior dogs aged seven and over are possible with prior notice. They are groomed for cleanliness in low-stress styles, and any medical conditions must be disclosed beforehand.

How do you handle matted coats?

Forceful de-matting by brushing is painful, so short-blade cutting is preferred. Additional fees apply, and skin irritation, redness or temporary baldness can result.

Do you offer daycare or pickup and delivery?

No daycare or pickup and delivery is available. Early drop-off and late pickup may be possible with advance notice, subject to availability.
