About The Grooming Girl

The Grooming Girl is a dog grooming salon run from a home base in Palm Beach, serving the southern end of the Gold Coast. It started in 2020 when founder Tahnee struck out on her own after years honing her craft, and the work centres on small breeds with grooming tailored to each dog discussed at drop-off.

Tahnee's path into grooming is a slightly unusual one: six years in hairdressing, three years learning the trade in a grooming salon, then four years as the primary groomer at Mermaid Waters Vet Clinic, where she picked up a strong grounding in pet health and handling. That experience shapes the calm, careful approach the salon takes with nervous and anxious dogs, where breaks and adjusted services keep things gentle. Tahnee works alongside Eliza and Meg, both of whom bring hairdressing and hands-on animal experience to the team. A full groom covers a warm bath, blow dry, brushing, a full haircut or style, and a nail trim, with puppies welcome from two weeks after their third vaccination.

The salon also runs a loyalty rewards program for repeat clients, earning points on grooming spend.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's included in a full groom?

A full groom includes a warm bath, blow dry, brushing, a full haircut or style, and a nail trim. Every groom is tailored to the desired outcome discussed in the consultation at drop-off.

Do you groom puppies?

Yes. The salon can tailor the haircut to your puppy and encourages a first groom from two weeks after the third vaccination. The team will do their best for the first haircut, though puppies can be wriggly and safety is the top priority.

Do you groom anxious or nervous dogs?

Yes. The team has experience with nervous dogs and works calmly and gently. If needed, they may adjust the service, take breaks, or suggest a care plan to keep everyone safe. Please disclose any relevant behaviour at drop-off.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes. Booking at least a week ahead is recommended as appointments fill quickly, especially around holidays.

What products do you use?

The salon uses Petway Aroma Care Shampoo and Plush Puppy OMG Spray. If your dog has allergies or a vet-prescribed product, you're welcome to bring it along.

What if my dog is matted?

The team will assess the coat and let you know if a shorter clip is needed for comfort and safety. Severe matting may incur an additional fee, but they will always explain first.

How do I pay, and is a card required to book?

A card is required to secure your booking but won't be charged unless under the no-show or cancellation policy. As a small business, cash is preferred but cards are also accepted, with payment due at pick-up.
