About Essential Dog Grooming

Essential Dog Grooming is a small home-based grooming service run by Kelly, working out of Kuraby in Brisbane's south and taking clients from across the wider metropolitan area. It is a one-person operation built around a single dog at a time rather than a busy salon floor, with a warm hydrobath on hand for the colder Brisbane days.

The focus here is on small and medium dogs up to around 15kg, with breeds like Maltese and Poodles among the regulars who come back every six to eight weeks. Kelly came to grooming after years working with children who have special needs, and has been grooming her own dogs since 2004 before completing a course to formalise the business. That background shows in the unhurried, hands-on approach, and bigger dogs are politely turned away because there is no hydraulic table to lift them safely.

For owners of smaller breeds who would rather hand their dog to one familiar person than rotate through a high-volume salon, it is a straightforward and affordable option close to home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Essential Dog Grooming based?

It is a home-based grooming service in Kuraby, in Brisbane's south, serving clients from across the Brisbane metropolitan area.

Is this a mobile grooming service?

No. Kelly grooms from home rather than travelling to clients, which helps keep the cost affordable.

Do they groom large dogs?

No. Without a hydraulic table to assist with lifting, only small and medium dogs are groomed, to avoid back injury. Small is 10kg and under, medium is 11 to 15kg.

How often should I have my dog groomed?

Roughly every 6 to 8 weeks is recommended for breeds such as Maltese and Poodles. In winter, alternating between a tidy-up and a full groom can work well.

What payment methods are accepted?

Card payments are accepted via a Square Reader, including PayWave, chip, swipe and Apple Pay.

What happens if I am late for my appointment?

Arriving more than 15 minutes late, or collecting your dog more than 15 minutes after it is ready, may incur a late fee.
