Zen Dog Grooming is a boutique, Fear Free certified dog grooming service on Wood Street in Newcastle West, built around the idea that a calm dog comes before a perfect finish. Owner and groomer Naomi holds Fear Free certification with a particular interest in behavioural grooming, an approach shaped by watching her own two dogs, Maybel and Olive, grow anxious at conventional salons.

The salon runs cage-free, so dogs are free to roam the large secure space before and after their groom rather than waiting in a crate. Appointments are kept deliberately unhurried, with breaks offered as needed, and no dog is pushed through a groom it is not coping with. Every dog is hand dried rather than cage or cabinet dried. The products are soap-free, pH-balanced and naturally based, made in Australia and cruelty-free. This setup suits dogs who find grooming stressful, nervous or less social dogs, double-coated breeds needing de-shedding, and puppies being eased into the routine for the first time.
